MediMax 2.0

The MediMax 2.0 system is a sample preparation system for the automated, mechanical disaggregation of solid animal or plant tissues for flow cytometric analysis, cell culture, or DNA amplification techniques.

The MediMax 2.0 system makes tissue preparation safe and independent of operator technique, and facilitates standardizing the preparation of all tissue types. Times and protocols can even be standardized across labs.

The MediMax 2.0 system consists of three components: MediMax 2.0, Medicons, Medicons-Max, Filcons & Filcons Max. The compact MediMax 2.0 unit is the heart of the system. It works with all types of Medicons and operates at a constant speed of approximately 80 rpm.

The Medicons is then inserted into the MediMax and the machine is started. The machine can be run from 10 seconds to 4 minutes depending upon the tissue type and the cell suspension you want. As the tissue is disaggregated, the cells pass through the screen into the suspension liquid in the bottom of the Medicons. Once the tissue is dissociated, the Medicons is removed from the MediMax 2.0. A needleless syringe is then inserted in the syringe port to recover the cell suspension. The Medicons may be rinsed with suspension buffer to ensure maximum cell recovery. Select the appropriate Filcons (or Filcons-Max if a 50 mL tube is used) pore size for isolation of the desired cells.

Filcons

Filcons

A disposable filter for separating cells and nuclei. Its porous membrane has an effective surface area of 80 mm2, enabling large quantities of cell suspensions to be filtered.

Filcons

Filcons is a disposable filter for separating cells and nuclei. Its porous membrane has an effective surface area of 80 mm2, enabling large quantities of cell suspensions to be filtered. The microporous polyethylene funnel section is designed to pass the biological material to be retrieved while trapping waste particles under 1.5µm in size. Filcons filters must not be used more than once, as subsequent specimens could be contaminated. Before use, dampen the Filcons filter membrane with the cell or nuclei suspension medium. Filcons filters with syringe fittings can be used in either suction or compression. Maximum pressure is 25 psi (1.8 bar). Whichever method is employed, is recommended anyway to use the syringe as a reservoir without applying pressure to the plunger, so that the specimen is allowed to percolate through. For quantities of less than 5 ml the cup-type Filcons filter should be used.

Specifications

Filcons

After disaggregation of the tissue in the Medicons, the cell suspension is filtered using a Filcon disposable filter device. Depending upon the chosen Filcon pore size, cells or cell aggregates pass through, while larger particles are trapped. There are two types of Filcons: a syringe-fitting form which can be used with either suction or compression, which works well for quantities over 5 mL, and a cup type that works well for small quantities.

Before use, wet the Filcons filter membrane with cell suspension buffer to reduce the surface tension and facilitate the filtration process.

Isolation of nuclei, cells, and cell clusters can be achieved by varying the Filcons pore size.

Never place the tissue into a dry Medicons
Do not overfill the Medicons with suspension buffer. This will cause the tissue to float and can result in inadequate disaggregation: dilution must be between 1 and 1,2 mL for standard Medicons (codes 79300 and 79400) and between 15 and 16 mL for Large Medicons (code 79500).
If the amount of tissue is very small, the suspension buffer can be replaced with staining solution for maximum cell recovery.
As the rotating element passes over the microblades, it tends to blunt the edges, reducing the cutting efficiency.
Do not reuse the Medicons for successive samples.
Medicons standard (green and orange) are available (sterile or not sterile) in two mesh sizes.

Ideal for high-throughput labs and bulk sample preparation, Medicons Max offer a secure, flow-efficient solution while maintaining the sterility and convenience of single-use functionality.

Medicons Max

Disposable disaggregator with 50µm separator screens. H.D. Polyethylene casing. Sterile and non-sterile. The internal mechanical part is in stainless steel and is made up of a fixed screen with about 250 hexagonal bore-holes, around each of which there are 6 microblades. 16 ml liquid solution.

A stainless steel element rotates on the screen, bringing the tissue to the blades and letting the gently dissociated parts pass through the bore-holes. A micropump positioned under the screen makes sure that the liquid passes through the bore-holes, maintaining them constantly clean. Disaggregation of the sample takes from 30 seconds up to 4 minutes. Small quantities of tissue are sufficient because the recovery rate is very high.
